What is in the future for the SMART System?
SMART is an easy to use software package
to analyze and report on ANY sports motion captured on video. SMART
features Video VCR with motion drag bar, Snapshots, Multi-Frames, and Side-by-Side
Playback to analyze the video, and full-featured Kinetic Animation to analyze the motion
in its smallest detail. Angles and paths can be identified and analyzed to identify the
smallest problems associated with any sports related movement. Whether it is Baseball,
Softball, Golf, Tennis, or most of the Track and Field Events, SMART
is a powerful tool to enhance the performance of an athlete.
What does the SMART System Pro Edition provide?
Full Drawing on the Video
Window
You can now draw lines, circles, squares, and measure angles on the main
video Window.
Unlimited Proof Sheet
The Proof Sheet was limited to six frames. The new version allows
unlimited frames. The frames will be shown in all the output.
Most Recently Used Files
The last four videos opened will now be available to open with one click
under the File menu.
Open videos by athlete
This feature groups all the videos for each athlete together.
Bookmarks
The Bookmark feature allows you to mark frames in the video for fast
access.
Gallery
The Gallery feature allows you to collect pictures, illustrating certain
parts of the motion, to be added to the proof sheet, displayed, real time,
or copied and pasted into the Notes Processor.
Create Browser (Web) Pages
The Pro Edition has the ability to save the output as browser (web) pages,
and publish them to a directory. From that directory, you could cut them
a CD for distribution back to the athlete, or to publish on a web site.
These pages are opened using the standard web browser.
Output Options
The fonts, titles, organization logo, and organization name can be
customized to allow you to present a professional image to your athletes.
Kinematic Animation Videos
The kinematic animations can be saved as videos. The videos can contain
the angles, paths, etc. The videos can then be used on the Browser page
or pasted into a Power Point presentation.
Video Capture
The SMART System Pro Edition video capture can access any Microsoft Video
for Windows compliant capture hardware. Check out our web-site for the
recommended hardware.
Video Editing
The SMART System Pro Edition video editing allow you to trim videos, front
and back, adjust the playback rate, and save to new files.
SMART does not provide the expertise in each of the sports, although ECI will be
offering specialized help files in many sports, as well as a discussion group on its
web site to ask questions and share ideas. Kinetic Animations can be downloaded off the
web, and imported into the SMART Software for playback. This Animation library will allow
comparison of your athletes motion to motions of superstars in their respective
sports.
SMART offers many features to help in analyzing a motion. First, a full featured
VCR-like player allows you to view the video. The Video VCR features include forward
play, reverse play, mirror play, speed selection, mouse-button direction control, and a
motion drag bar. The motion drag bar will adjust the current frame, real time, to
view and review video, forward or back, giving you full control over the video.
The Multi-Frame window displays from two to forty-eight frames of the video on one
window. The number of frames between each frame shown can be adjusted. This allows you to
see all the major parts of a motion on one page, or many frames of a problem in the
athletes motion on a single page. Notes can be entered for this window also, and are
printed when the window is printed.
The Proof Sheet stores up to 6 frames at a time from the Video VCR window. The frames
are numbered, to allow easy reference from the Notes facility. The Proof Sheet can be used
as a tool to show the athlete the highlights, or problems with the motion, as well as
comments about it.
The Side-by-Side VCR allows comparisons of two videos, either of the same athlete at
two different times, or a video of an athlete to a video of another athlete. The start
frame can be adjusted to allow you to synchronize the side-by-side videos by changing the
start frame to match the other videos logical start of the motion to be compared. The
playback rate can be adjusted separately for each video, to allow you to better
synchronize the videos. Either side can be mirrored, to, for example, compare a
lefty and a right batter from the same side. Each video also has a frame
forward/frame backward control to fully match frames from both videos.
SMART offers full video analysis tools, but its strength is in the Kinetic Animations.
Tracking the pure motion, without all of the noise and distraction found in the background
of a video, allows for the analysis of the smallest movement. The slightest difference in
the angle of the arm, or rotation of the body, can be easily identified. The video frame
or frames that contain the problem can then be printed, and used to show the athlete the
problem, and the correction.
SMART also offers a full-featured word processor, fully integrated into the system. The
notes taken behind each window, together with the graphic windows, can be printing using
SMARTs printing subsystem, which allows full print preview with zoom.
SMART has the following minimum hardware
requirements:
-
Minimum Pentium III class 500mz Processor or better (The better the processor, the better
the video playback)
-
256 MB memory
-
5 MB free hard disk space for the software
-
Color Printer
-
Video Capture Device capable of 30 frames per second
-
Free hard disk space to contain the videos, at least 20 GB
SMART works with any video hardware that is
Video for Windows compliant. We recommend the Belkin Videobus 2 USB cable,
or the
Dazzle Digital Video Creator 80.

ECI has extensive plans for the future of the SMART System. From video
enhancements such as zooming to a specific part of the video, to Kinetic Animation
enhancements such as full 3D rotation, zooming, and panning, to video hardware control.
We listen to our clients for new features!
ECI will be publishing Help files for many sports defining, in detail, the use of SMART
in analyzing the sport's specific motions.
